I started writing this post on Thursday night but realised I'd forgotten to take pictures - thought I'd wait for the better light in the morning - wrong - tis grey,dull & wet outside so the photos aren't as clear and flash free as I'd like.
Anyhow - this faintly patriotic thing - it started on Wednesday night at S&B. We were having our cuppa and we started to comment on one of the mugs - a rather posh Silver Jubilee one that belonged to a friend. It lead the conversation round to whether the rest of us still had our mugs (those old enough) from 1977. I still have mine - it now sits on my desk and holds pens;
A friend had her daughter with her who was doing some drawing before she goes back to uni - about trend predictions. She mentioned about a patriotic theme due to the forthcoming weddings and next years Diamond Jubilee. It made me think about the bits I've been making this week towards birthdays and the craft fair - I hadn't realised that there was a red/white/blue theme coming through;
I wonder if that's right - will everything be red/white/blue this spring / summer and next?? And I wonder if my children would keep a mug for over 30 years??
See you soon

Funnily enough I was looking at a mug I have from 1977 too! I cannot belive I was fifteen then - talk about feeling old!! Looking forward to 'the' wedding though!!
Loving the red, white and blue theme in your makes. Bye bye from a soggy London.
Yes its been reather soggy here too.
Yes i guess there will be a bit of UJ feel to this year with all the royal weddings going on. Love your red, white and blue makes they are so lovely and colourful together.
Thanks for your comment on my blog. I know what you mean about the camper vans and height. My DH is 6.4" too so I guess it might well be a pipe dream. Although he could take his beloved tent along too. He he he - what a wicked woman I am...... lol.

I've been thinking about this too! Ben was given a Christmas mug AND a royal commemorative mug every year/royal event through his childhood and early teens, and he still has them all. I hid them away for ages but recently put the stylish blue stoneware ones on display in our kitchen, and brought the red ones out for Christmas! Why not? And I also have a Coronation tablecloth for sale in my blog shop - I keep wanting to take it back for myself!
Love the things you have been making so bright and cheerful. I to have my mugs but when Diana and Charles were married, although my mum and dad still have theres from goodness knows what year. I think we live in such a throw away society it will be interesting to see how things will last and be seen in years to come. Dee x
Such gorgeous makes! I love the flowery take on the red, white and blue and, yes, think we will be awash with UJs this year too.
I vaguely remember the Silver Jubilee but sadly don't have any momentoes. How wonderful that you still have your mug.
Hx
I was 7 when it was the Silver Jubilee. My mum still has my mug, put away somewhere but I can still remember the fabuolous street party we had and even who won the fancy dress competition - not me I hasten to add!
Wonder if there will be more of this community spirit during these royal occaisions?! Would be lovely if there was!

Lovely makes! Yes, I've got lots of UJ ideas for this year too. xx
Interesting! I was born in 1977 and had a Jubliee money box that I kept for years :) x
Lovely makes! I did have my Jubilee mug for years but don't know what happened to it?!? x
i love the red white and blue, ive got two jubilee plates! although i got them from a cs! fliss xxx
I think that blue, white and red have been in for a while now, it's just going to be more prominent with lots more union jacks too! :) x
You can't go wrong with red, white and blue!
Have a great weekend,
Victoria xx
I wonder if people will buy up all the Kate and William memorial mugs and save them for the future? If you go to car boot sales there's a lot of royal stuff for sale, i got a few bits last year..just couldn't resist :)
I love old patriotic mugs and the like, but I think I like them more because they're old. I doubt I'd buy any of the new stuff, although I do have a lovely 'God Save the Queen' cushion from Windsor castle. It's done in a shabby chic style an looks lovely on my bed x
I was enrolled as a Brownie in 1977 and got a special jubilee badge given to all Brownies who got enrolled that year, sadly I dont think I have it anymore.
Em xxxxx
I still have mine too, the jubilee and a Charles and Diana one. I wonder whether our children will get one this time, probably not f Mr Cameron gets his way.
I had a mug and a 25p piece but dont know where they went must have a look for them. I can see the red, white and blue becoming a trend although we have had the old union jack as a designer theme for quite a while now, sure that will keep going a bit longer. Happy New Year, Jane xx
