Sunny Monday

Good afternoon

Phew what a hot one - more blue skies, the occasional fluffy white cloud and about 1mm of rain at 4am!!

I know - I must be mad to be indoors but sadly at the moment I'm being held prisoner by pollen - for the first time in about 20 years I am really suffering with hayfever :( I guess the pollen isn't getting dampened down so instead it is attacking my eyes & nose :( So whilst my garden suffers - my sewing room has been getting loads of attention!

A new frock for me :)

Brooches and hair slides towards the craft fair

More teacup pincushions - have another 4 to finish tonight.

The best place for me at the moment is right on the coast, so we've been to Aldeburgh Saturday and Sunday for a walk - it was so quiet there - hardly a tourist in sight - strange. Sunday Little Son came too - he thought he might get an ice-cream - he was right;

I picked up some new sunglasses from the opticians this morning - they cover more of my eyes and might just help reduce the amount of pollen that gets in there and yes they are purple ;)

As you can see my natural 'highlights' have been allowed to take over - only a few more inches of coloured hair left to go before I am back to being natural for the first time in over 15 years! Kind of used to it now - my hair feels better too.

Wow @ all the comments on my last post - I wonder if there will be a national shortage of purple shoes?? Hope everyone who wanted one got their CK bag - that mag has sold our in our little town completely.

Right off for a quick blog hop and then wait for my boys to return home from school - its their first full week in ages - I think by Friday they will be shattered.

See you soon.

I shall wear purple

Warning - When I Am an Old Woman I Shall Wear Purple

By Jenny Joseph

When I am an old woman, I shall wear purple
with a red hat that doesn't go, and doesn't suit me.
And I shall spend my pension on brandy and summer gloves
and satin candles, and say we've no money for butter.
I shall sit down on the pavement when I am tired
and gobble up samples in shops and press alarm bells
and run my stick along the public railings
and make up for the sobriety of my youth.
I shall go out in my slippers in the rain
and pick the flowers in other people's gardens
and learn to spit.

You can wear terrible shirts and grow more fat
and eat three pounds of sausages at a go
or only bread and pickles for a week
and hoard pens and pencils and beer nuts and things in boxes.

But now we must have clothes that keep us dry
and pay our rent and not swear in the street
and set a good example for the children.
We must have friends to dinner and read the papers.
But maybe I ought to practice a little now?
So people who know me are not too shocked and surprised
When suddenly I am old, and start to wear purple.

But for now - I'll settle for my new purple shoes - am so in love with these and they are attracting attention whenever they go. An utter bargain - just £13 from the little shop in town and they are leather lined and oh so comfy;

Another sunny day here - another trip into town - mainly to do boring things like banking, post and a big shop. Of course its rude not to support local business, so I had to pop into my favourite little charity shop - more cups & saucers. Got quite a collection now - when they are all done, I shall do a massed group photo. Here's today's pair;

I know I'm not the only blogger to have bought this magazine today - I'd planned to treat myself to a mag and when I spotted this one on the shelf I couldn't leave it there. The bag is great - perfect for stuffing into my handbag - ideal for all CS bargains and car boot treats!

This afternoon I've been busy making for the fair later this month - cutting out loads of fabric circles to turn into brooches & hairslides. I've also got a pile of pattern pieces to cut out for a batch of Rainbow Raggies too. In case anyone is local, here's the details - Southwold St Edmunds Hall - Saturday 28th, Sunday 29th & Monday 30th May - 10am till 5pm - I shall be there on the Sunday and I know a friend has a stall there on the Monday;

Right a quick wander around blogland is in order and then back to cutting and stitching. Would have started earlier but our dishwasher chose tonight (when it was stuffed full) to decide not to work, so big son & I did it all by hand - not fun.

See you soon

Star Wars Day

May the Forth be with you ;)

Couldn't resist even when I found that Magic Beans had got in there before me - fortunately I managed to find a few more little Lego men !

Have a great day folks - assume most are like me and have more lovely sunshine. Another perfect drying day.

Hooray its May

Good afternoon

Good news - my computer is mended. Dear MrVV spent most of Saturday installing a new hard drive and then painstakingly copying everything I needed from old disk onto the new one and then making sure everything worked - total darling he is.

What a lovely weekend - another sunny bank holiday - here's hoping its the same at the end of month.

Friday was a very lazy day - MrVV & I watched all the Wedding coverage - I loved it and think they make a smashing couple.

Saturday was computer repair day. I kept out of the way - I gave in and had a housework blitz - even the boys found their floors and finally put all their clean clothes into drawers/cupboards rather than just heaps all over the floor.

Sunday was wonderful. MrVV & I had planned a day out together - the boys were asked but as soon as they heard the mention of Morris dancing they opted instead to remain hobbits at home. Their loss - we had a wonderful time. We headed up to Geldeston Locks which is the most amazing little pub on a river bank. Its reached by a little and bumpy track and was very hidden.

They were planning an all day celebration of Beltane. We didn't make the 5am start but did get there in time for a scrummy pub lunch and for some of the afternoon entertainment;

Traditional Maypole dancing and crowning of the May Queen (just hidden near the tree in the shade)

 Morris Dancing

 Mummers - oh where was St George when I needed him for the Photo Hunt !!
More Morris Dancing - can never have enough :)

We wished we could have stayed longer but we'd promised to be at the 90th birthday party of a neighbour. I am glad we did go there - we had a lovely evening - plenty of wine/beer and all within staggering distance of our house :) Even the boys came for a while and were soon dragged off by the neighbours Great-Grandson to push him on a swing.

Today was a family day - it gets quite tricky nowadays to persuade the boys out but some things are too tempting for them to want to miss. Think Southwold - Pennyfalls, walk, chips for lunch, more walking and then an ice-cream - they agreed and we had a lovely if slightly wind-swept and salt sprayed time;

 Pennyfalls - little son & I made our £1's worth of 2ps last for ages AND we won 3 prizes.

You know its spring when all the beach huts are put back along the Prom.

Last time I did a Southwold post someone commented on the lack of cannons - well here's one with me & little son on it.

Lastly yesterday morning MrVV & I headed to a different car boot sale which has just started again for the season - I was desperate for more teacups and saucers to convert into pincushions - I struck lucky - 4 matching sets & 1 mix/match one - for the princely total spend of just £3.50. Rather handy as I've just booked into a Vintage/Craft fair at the end of the month!!

Photo Scavenger Hunt - April 2011

Hello

Another month, another list. Taking part in this, certainly makes me look at more surroundings a little more closely and also to (and I hate this phrase) sometimes 'think outside the box' to find all the headings on the list.

Here are my pics for April 2011;

My breakfast - Homemade Smoothie & Hot Cross Buns go together perfectly

My camera - a little inexpensive Pentax Optio E90 - we go everywhere together

A church - not sure of the name but it was in the middle of Orford village.

A cross - St Georges, St Patricks or St Andrews - you take your pick.

Eggs - mini ones on the top of Easter cakes

My keys - more keyring than keys! Just 2 keys - one for the door and the other for my bike lock.

A shop - I spent far too often in here - buying pretties, browsing and just nattering to my friend who owns it.

St George - he's the Patron Saint of Scouts - so here's my Explorer Scout looking smart before his parade.

A statue - outside an antiques shop in Orford.

Not quite William Shakespeare - but my William.

Something yellow - daffs - just a shame the season for these was so short this year.

April showers - I am so glad I took this pic right at the beginning of the month - I think its the only time its rained here in Suffolk this month.

Thanks Kathy for keeping me alert again this month - I wonder whats in store for May??

A new royal family.......

A wild nobility - we are the family

If you're a certain age you'll know those lyrics - otherwise you'll just think I've finally gone mad ;) My boys are the latter. The reason? Adam Ant has been announced as an act at this summers Latitude Festival - boy was I happy when I spotted that the other day!! The first record I ever bought was an Adam & the Ants single - think that was over 30 years ago!!

Well today was back to school for Little Son - not exactly happy about this when he left this morning but much happier when he came home a little while ago - thank goodness. Big son has enjoyed his final day of hols - looking after a cousin this morning and then an afternoon attached to his Wii - teenagers ;)

Back to my last post - I saw my sister yesterday - she loved her pressies - especially the ring :) As the weather stayed nice, we ended up over @ her partners house for a BBQ in the garden. He owns a very old mini-motorbike from his childhood - my little nephew loved this even though it wouldn't start;

Of course, he was thrilled that his oldest cousin (big son) was at the party and wouldn't leave him alone;

When I was in town this morning, I popped into the shop that stocks some of my makes - wanted to see if I'd sold much over the holiday period. Excellent news - I had and I left with a wad of cash and a request to get making. I'm struggling at the moment to find odd cups & saucers but one charity shop had a couple of small tea plates that will work fine with the car boot cups from the weekend;

I found another cottage tea plate too - not sure what I'm going to do with these - I suspect a new collection might be happening;

Lastly for today - I found a new swap involving one of my favourite subject matters - buttons - over here.

See you soon
